Gosh, zombies. Never really understood the appeal. I only like horror movies where babysitters run around in high-waisted jeans, and even then, I prefer horror movies that make fun of babysitters in high-waisted jeans. World War Z isn't really a horror movie, but it is a very expensive zombie spectacle (so whatever, it's horror to me).
Brad Pitt stars as a U.N. employee named Gerry Lane who has to stop the fast-acting undead folks from killing civilians, defeating armies, and collapsing governments. I assume he's going to be pretty humorless about the whole operation.
But hey, wait, did I just mention Brad Pitt's name? Because he is an important part of why I bring up this movie. Did you know he is still hot? Dig the trailer below.
First of all: Always nice to see the very talented Mireille Enos. Secondly, wish I could fight it, but the hardened, roadie-haired Brad Pitt is still a hot item at 49 years old. After all these years as a definitive cinematic pinup, he remains both aloof and down-to-Earth on screen, and that remains a comely combination. I wish he chose more movies in the vein of Burn After Reading, where he shook things up with an unforgettable, deeply hilarious performance, but I don't hate him as a stoic paternal type either. Maybe it's because he's just believable in pretty much everything these days? Is that weird to say? I thought Moneyball was nothing special, but he was exceptional in it.
World War Z underwent major reshoots and acquired a new ending (and release date -- it comes out June 21), and I think I may be on board to watch it based on Brad's grizzled sexiness and my strange, unexpected willingness to believe him as anything. He's come a loooong way since his tepid work in, say, Cool World.
Is Brad Pitt worth seeing in anything, even if we don't care about zombies or apocalypses? And is he still hot despite ditching his jaw-dropping skills with a hairdryer all those years ago?
