"I hope they all eat bad airplane fish."
First of all ... Two Hours? Seriously? And it's not even a final? I always thought PR was best when it was an hour. It was exciting, fast paced, and we didn't have a chance to groan at some of the obvious producer machinations. Then it was stretched to ninety minutes, which was okay in certain circumstances, but when you have a season as subpar as this one, the padding can be deadly (speaking of deadly padding, we'll get to Patricia's design in a moment).
This week the designers are all given tickets to the great fashion cities of the world, and their designs have to be inspired by those cities. Layana goes to Barcelona, Patricia is sent to the gutters of Paris, Stanley is in London, and Daniel goes to Berlin, which gives hm numerous opportunities to break down ... before he even leaves New York.
Speaking of New York, Michelle has to stay behind, because the producers are jerks, but Tim reminds her that NYC is the fashion capital of the world, so she has it best of all, or something, and I think this was the first time I ever wanted to slap Tim Gunn.
But Michelle tries to take it in stride. Yes, she nearly has a sad depressive nervous breakdown, but eventually she snaps out it with the help of assistant Tu (who somehow garnered the inevitable and adorable nickname Tutie sometime this season, but I missed exactly when).
Let's take a look at each of the designer's final challenge entries
STANLEY
Stanley was sent to Transylvania and delivered this spot-on inspiration that totally deserved this week's win. He becom ... oh wait. He was actually sent to London. Was it National Mourning Day? Well, never mind, we all knew there was no way that Stanley would not make the finals, even if he threw ... this down the runway.
2. DANIEL
Daniel is the second designer through to the finals, and shockingly, this is youthful, and does looks inspired by Berlin. Of course, the fact that he had Amanda assisting him might have helped a bit.
3. MICHELLE
Michelle is the third designer through, and let's face it, all of the drama about giving her "one last chance" was all a load of B.S. I think they realized they had absolutely no compelling stories this season, so had to manufacture one. I loved this design, especially the breastplate, which was hilarious and whackadoodle. I know Heidi didn't like the dirty hem, but even she had to admit that it did represent NYC.
4. PATRICIA
So Patricia went to Paris, and this is what she ended up with. With all of the magnificent architecture and art in Paris, Patricia decided to stroll the gutters and back alleys to find the "real" Paris. Apparently the "real" Paris is ... dirty, discarded Pampers? But Heidi likes it, so Patricia is through to the finals.
5. LAYANA
Layana had Barcelona, but for the life of me, I don't know how it inspired this drab look. When I think of Barcelona, I think of colors popping, but this looked ... sad. Still, I'm surprised they kept Patricia and let Layana go. Patricia seems stuck as a One-Way Monkey, while Layana was younger and fresher.
