Are you still numb? Have you had a chance to catch your breath? History was made last night, and it started with President Barack Obama's re-election. After all of the back and forth and up and down about who was winning what polls ... The President pulled out a decisive victory, winning both the Electoral College and the popular vote, providing a crushing defeat for Republicans, FOX, and radio blowhards everywhere.
But unlike what happened in 2008, there was no bitter to go with the sweet. Four years ago we had to deal with the devastation of Prop 8 in California, which muted the elation of the President's win.
But not this time.
Since the late '90s, a total of 32 states have held votes on marriage-equality, and each time, voters have opposed the measure. There were four more chances last night, and in what may represent a society-changing event, voters in all four states have chosen fairness and equality.
Tammy Baldwin
The Advocate has a terrific look at all of the GLBT strides that were made last night (including the election of Wisconsin Democrat Tammy Baldwin, who has become the first openly gay Senator, and the retention of Iowa judge David Wiggins, who had been viciously vilified by anti-gay groups for his pro-equality vote).
What are your thoughts this morning? Can you put it into words? What are you most happy about? Do you feel like saying "Nyah-Nyah-Nyah" to NOM? (You just know that Brian Brown is weeping into his No-Froot Loops).
And remember, Michele Bachmann may have narrowly eeked out a reelection, but hey, look on the bright side ... she's good for comedy.
