As I write this, the world is observing World AIDS Day. We are remembering who we lost, who is still with us, and looking forward to a day when we can say that AIDS is something for the history books. Glee'sAlex Newelljoined with Planned Parenthood World for their World AIDS Day broadcast, and shared his thoughts on how we must reach out globally to combat the disease, especially to young people. "That's how we're going to fight HIV/AIDS -- by engaging and empowering young people to help themselves and their peers stay HIV free. This is the demographic that is most vulnerable to unintended pregnancy, STDs, and HIV/AIDS. In fact, worldwide, young people still make up about 40 percent of all new HIV infections."
China has a first large scale, real world study of the impact of anti-retroviral drugs in preventing transmission, tracking 24,000 serodiscordant couples who received treatment, and 14,800 who did not. The reduction in transmission was 26%, which was lower than in a recent clinical trial, which achieved 89% reduction, but still saved many people across a large scale.
On Becoming Positive. A must read for anyone.
Queer, indefinable heartthrob Ezra Millerrecently got in front of the camera of Terry Richardson, and the resulting photos proved steamy for viewers of any gender.
Frank Bruniwould like to know whyPresident Clinton, recently so in the spotlight helping to get President Obama reelected, hasn't placed himself at the center of the fight against the Defense of Marriage Act, which he signed into law.
On Friday, the Supreme Court issued no orders about which, if any, cases concerning marriage equality it might take up in the new session. An announcement is possible Monday, or even later.
Katy Perryhas been namedBillboard's Woman of the Year. I have a weird set of emotions about Katy Perry, but a lot of my original enmity towards her I've recently been leaning towards chalking up to inexperience. But every time I hear an artist say they don't see themselves as a role model, I cringe, because surely they know better? It sounds like they're trying to absolve themselves of future bad behavior when they know that teens put them on a pedestal, because that's what pays their bills.
Pennsylvania GOP Rep. Mike Fleckhas come out as gay. That makes him the only out Republican in the state legislature. Fleck was previously married to a woman, who he says he remains best friends with.
As tends to happen in a recession, U.S. birth rates dropped dramatically, to 63.2 births per 1,000 women of childbearing age. While the birth rate of U.S. born women fells from 62.4 to 58.9, the rates of foreign born women dropped from 102 to 87.8.
Harvard has become the latest university to approve a school club for students to discuss BDSM in a safe environment. I'm thinking how progressive it felt to have a GLBT group on my university campus back in 1990, and now you can meet to discuss bondage. Kids these days!
Arrowhas castSpartacus'Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson, one of Arrow's deadliest adversaries. I wonder if Bennett ever considers going out for a role without a body count?
If you ever wanted bedding with naked cowboys on it to put an adult spin on the themed sheets of your youth, have we got something for you. But maybe you shouldn't put them on the bed in the spare room when mom comes to visit.
Robert Zemekissays that the script for theWho Framed Roger Rabbit? sequel is finished and sitting at Disney, and he's ready to shoot as soon as they give the go ahead. The film will still pair hand-drawn animation with live action in a period setting.
I'm not sure what Lance Bass is doing on the set of Malibu Country, but I like where this could go
Since Nolan Funk gets to hide in a Dalton blazer rather than the McKinley locker room, he can enjoy an ice cream sandwich
Adam Lambert calls this a "glam slam"
Pink manages to make lounging about look so hardcore
Santa knew just what to bring me for Christmas - a shirtless Parker Young on Suburgatory!
The Ali Forney Center has a new series of videos called "Homeless For the Holidays" which aren't likely to displace A Charlie Brown Christmas for holiday specials, but they're even more important as they highlight the plight of homeless GLBT youth in America. While things worked out for Rigo in the end, he never should have had to go through what he did as a child.
Bo Obama is probably the best behaved dog I've ever seen. He calmly inspects the White House Christmas decorations, including a strange-yet-familiar looking creature I bet he's hoping he gets to keep once Christmas is over.
Showing a bit of crack might be fine in a gay bar at 2AM as you prepare to enter the sidewalk sale, but it's not OK at work. I know I see countless young guys working at the mall with their underwear showing (and it's not even designer!), no belt on. I'm not sure when standards dropped to make this acceptable in the modern workplace, and at least one mother has had enough, even if her son is fully grown. But will Prudence agree with her stance?
Jennifer Lawrence is easily one of the most honest and refreshing actresses out there. Here she's interviewed with her Silver Linings Playbook costar Bradley Cooper about just how well they know each other after having done two movies together. Bradley seems to be quite up to date on his costar, but I'm not buying that he doesn't know what Spanx are, but that was easily the only answer he could have given that would have been acceptable.
Movember is over, with much money raised for an excellent cause, but that means it's likely time for many mustaches to die a very timely death. Rhett & Link put together a video to show you how to put your cookie duster out of its misery in the most humane way possible, both for you and the 'stache.
On The New Normal, Bryan makes nice with Jane by taking her to a party at his realtor's home, played by Marlo Thomas of That Girl fame. Thomas has still got it, and Jane seems just a bit starstruck meeting a realtor of her caliber.
Sir Ian McKellen would like to get married in Middle Earth in this video for support of marriage equality in New Zealand. Which does bring to mind the question of just who would perform a wedding for a wizard. In most fantasy novels it's a king or wizard or someone of that stature. But who has the stature to perform a wedding for Gandalf? Smaug?
Finally, Sally Field is sitting down with Oprah Winfrey, and she talks about the joy of raising a gay son, and not understanding parents that don't want to help their children become the person they were meant to be. Sally is just great - bold, honest, and passionate, but I do wonder how her son Sam feels about being called sexy by his mother.
