  • Birthday shoutouts go to Naveen Andrews (above), who is 44, Paul Young is 57, Jim Carrey is 51, Zooey Deschanel is 33, and Susanna Hoffs is 54..
  • My Secret Past: Gareth Thomas Coming Out airs tonight in the UK, and he reveals that he hoped Rugby would turn him straight. “If I hadn’t had the rugby field to get rid of my aggression I would have been locked up a long time ago. By hurting people and being aggressive on the pitch, I was seen as a tough guy. And if you’re known as a tough guy it means you’re not gay.”
  • Without Susan Boyle, the Les Miserables movie might never have happened. You hear that, Brian Juergens?
  • In ratings news, there's good news and bad news for American Idol . It was still the top rated show by a long shot, but ... it was down 19% from last year's season premiere, and was the lowest rated AI premiere since the first season. Meanwhile, Arrow was up in its return.
  • Our thoughts are with with the family of Pauline Friedman Phillips, who has died at the age of 94. Her "Dear Abby" column was a newspaper mainstay for decades, and she was an ally for the gay community, and often caught flack for it.
  • Dan Savage on being different.

  • Towleroad has a review of Sebastian Stan in Broadway's Picnic.

  • In great news for One Life To Live fans, it appears that Erika Slezak and Bob Woods have signed up to continue with the show, and in a very intriguing bit of news, a casting notice has gone out for a "30-something, rugged white male named Billy," and there's speculation it could be Billy Douglas, who was last played as a gay teen by Ryan Phillipe. I hope the new Billy keeps the ducktail.

  • The 100 Greatest Lost Hits Of The 80's countdown may be over, but every Thursday we're going to travel back again and pay tribute to an 80's tune that should have been a bigger hit. This week, it's "Come Back And Stay" by birthday boy Paul Young. Best known for his 1985 #1 smash "Every Time You Go Away," Paul first hit the Billboard chart a year earlier, when the haunting "Come Back And Stay" reached #22 in April 1984, which I actually prefer to his Hall & Oates cover.

  • Continuing the 50 Greatest 80's TV Theme Songs/Openings!, Here's #14, Paper Dolls.
  • Airing on ABC from September 23, 1984 – December 25, 1984, I first put the spotlight on primetime soap Paper Dolls in my first Gone Too Soon article, but It definitely deserves entry on this list, as well, if only for "And Morgan Fairchild as Racine." Sparkle!
