In marriage equality news, the Rhode Island House has passed the marriage equality bill, sending it to the Senate for a much tougher fight. Hawaii has introduced a marriage equality bill, bringing the fight full circle, as it began in many ways in Hawaii. And in the UK, the marriage equality bill has been formally introduced in the House of Commons.
In other news, Vicki Jackson, the Harvard law professor the Supreme Court asked to argue if SCOTUS had jurisdiction in the Windsor case since the administration had stopped defending it says that it does not. She argues that the House Bipartisan Legal Group doesn't have standing to intervene, "any injury that might arise from nondefense of a law would be to the whole Congress, which one House cannot alone assert." This isn't surprising, but I don't know how this will affect the case.

The Russian military has been instructed by the Kremlin to inspect new recruits for tattoos that might indicate that they are gay. Tattoos around the face, buttocks and genitals are of particular concern. Short of having "Open for business" with a downward pointing arrow as a tramp stamp, I'm not sure what this proves. My tattoos are on my upper arms, and aren’t indicative of a desire to put people in headlocks.

A recently introduced bill in New Mexico would have made it a crime for a woman to abort a baby conceived of rape, classifying it as "tampering with evidence." The bill's author says that was never the intention, which she says was to protect women who are raped from being forced to have an abortion by their rapist.
