Jim Nabors is a TV icon thanks to his role as Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show and Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., but he just renewed his legend in a cool and heartwarming way -- by marrying his male partner of 38 years, Stan Cadwallader. Nabors has long resided in Hawaii, but he and Cadwallader tied the knot in Seattle. Said Nabors, "“I’m 82 and he’s in his 60s and so we’ve been together for 38 years and I’m not ashamed of people knowing, it’s just that it was such a personal thing, I didn’t tell anybody,” Nabors said. “I’m very happy that I’ve had a partner of 38 years and I feel very blessed. And, what can I tell you, I’m just very happy.”
My favorite Gomer Pyle episode, however, dovetails with my love of game shows. Gomer once appeared on a Dating Game-style show called Win A Date, and his earnest answers are all adorable. Surely Jim Lange would melt at every response.
