The 31st and final episode of the web series Jack in a Box went live today, and true to form, it's gone out not with a bang but with a cupcake.
Directed by and starring actor Michael Cyril Creighton (whom you might recognize as that one stabby reality show contestant from that episode of Louie), Jack is somewhat unique among web series with gay lead characters.
Creighton's title character isn't a chiseled hunk like on Husbands or a goofy caricature like on Where the Bears Are. He's neurotic, cynical, and actually quite realistic, as are the various other characters. Katina Corrao stands out as Jack's infuriatingly perky co-worker Suzie, and the show has featured several guest stars of note including Randy Harrison (Queer as Folk) and Cole Escola (Jeffery and Cole Casserole).

The series also doesn't place much focus on Jack's romantic life; in fact, he only recently found a boyfriend in the form of the adorable redhead Drew (played by Paul Thureen). Rather, it focuses on more mundane woes: Jack's strained relationship with his family, his friends and his deeply unsatisfactory career as a box office clerk.
Episode of the series are varied; many are funny, some are a bit sad, and a few (such as the somewhat ambiguous series finale) are oddly poignant. If you've never seen Jack in a Box, now's as good a time as any to catch up! The show's website and all archived episodes can be found at jackinaboxsite.com.
