Yeah, trying to figure out how to watch all the great Tuesday night comedies is driving me to drink, too.

News

The Good Wife have an impressive (and huge) recurring cast, and it has just added T.R. Knight. Knight will play a political operative, which is just the kind of character who has room to make return appearances. Also, Michael J. Fox will return as Louis Canning.

In unsurprising news, Showtime has ordered a third season of Homeland. Then again, maybe you thought the shelf full of awards and solid ratings were a misdirect about the series' future.

Homeland wasn't the only show to get good news, Fox will bring back The X-Factor for a third season.

Has reality TV (on cable, at least) become the modern version of the circus sideshow?

Betsy Brandt will appear on an episode of Parenthood, playing the ex-wife of Ray Romano's character, who like the husband of Brandt's Breaking Bad character, is named Hank.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar has signed up for an appearance on Happy Endings where he'll play Max's "mysterious" new roommate.

Now that it's given a full season to Arrow (as snicks told you yesterday) The CW has ordered three more scripts of its other two new series, Emily Owens, M.D. and Beauty and the Beast.

CBS has purchased a comedy titled Smells Like Teen Spirit that follows an 18-year-old who decides to start his own Internet business instead of going to college. That's a working title, so they'll still have to get approval to use it if it becomes a series.

After extending The Mindy Project's season by two episodes, Fox has ordered two more episodes of New Girl and Raising Hope.

Fox's lone Tuesday-night comedy that has a shorter season than the rest of its neighbors is Ben & Kate, it looks likely that midseason comedy The Goodwin Games will get that time slot. When it does, it will have Laurie Metcalf appearing in two episodes as the boss of Scott Foley's character.

Fox isn't the only one asking for longer seasons, ABC ordered two more episodes of Modern Family, Grey's Anatomy, The Middle and The Shark Tank.

MTV is developing young adult novel Unraveling into a potential series. The book follows a young woman who suspects her mysterious and sexy classmate brought her back from death after a car accident.

Despite Peter Berg's demands that the Mitt Romney campaign stop using a variant on the Friday Night Lights motto "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose", the campaign is now selling merchandise with the catchphrase.

In an interview at the AV Club, Adam Pally says he tries not to think of the significance of his Happy Endings character to gay visibility, " I try not to think about any of that stuff. I feel like once you do, then you’re thinking too much about the macro of the character, and not just about the moment. I just want to take Max moment by moment and try not to think too much outside that."

It's official, Jane Fonda will star in an ABC comedy pilot Now What?. Fonda will play a woman who moves in with her daughter after she writes a blog post titled, "Dear Mom, Here's Why I Hate You..." and refuses to move out until they work through their issues.

Rachel Maddow and Nicolle Wallace will be discussing the debate and the value of horses and bayonets over aircraft carriers.

The Cuban Missile Crisis: Three Men Go to War (PBS) Check local listings
You might have heard Bob Schieffer mention the anniversary of the Cuban missile crisis last night and tonight PBS commemorates the anniversary with a look at how John F. Kennedy, Fidel Castro and Nikita Krushchev navigated the tension over the Soviet Union building missile bases on Cuba.

Secrets of the Dead (PBS) Check local listings
PBS continues to commemorate the anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis by exploring the story of Vasili Arkhipov the "man who saved the world" by refusing to file a nuclear missile from his Soviet submarine as it lurked off the coast of Florida. a tale that was only recently made public.

Pretty Little Liars (ABC Family) 8:00 PM ET
I wasn't a fan of the first PLL Halloween special, but it mostly didn't work for the reasons prequels don't usually work. This time, Halloween sees the Liars try to recover from Nate's short reign of terror by seeing Adam Lambert perform. Naturally, the "A" team looks likely to ruin that fun.

Raising Hope (Fox) 8:00 PM ET
Jimmy and Sabrina are about to prepare for their wedding by attending a couples' retreat, but Burt and Virginia see a chance to get a free vacation... and to keep things crowded, Sabrina's mom is joining the trip with her boyfriend Roberto (Wilmer Valderrama)... oh and I didn't even get to mentioning that the retreat is led by a priest played by the one and only Leslie Jordan.

Happy Endings (ABC) 9:00 PM ET
Sigh. The Tuesday night comedy pileup is finally here. I hoped Go On would lose me by now (despite the participation of Todd Holland) but now its time to choose between the anarchy of ABC's urban comedies, the wide-eyed hopefulness of Fox's romantic sitcoms and the domestic comfort of NBC's duo. This week, Happy Endings defintely has the edge, not just because it's the first new episode in months but it has Matthew Del Negro (who has been showing up a lot lately) as the object of Max's new crush.

New Girl (Fox) 9:00 PM ET
Somehow Schmidt buying Nick a cookie leads to a debate on male friendship (and, presumably, at what point do two guy friends start seeming more like boyfriends). I'm usually happy with how New Girl has handled male and female friendship, I'm hoping they do equally well with close male friendship.

Go On (NBC) 9:00 PM ET
It's a return of one of Go On's familiar beats, Ryan's uncomfortable at receiving affection from the group, who are just overflowing with ways to express love. This time, it's Ryan's birthday that gets things moving as the group plans an unwelcome scavenger hunt. Whoever finds where Ryan buried his vulnerability wins!

Face Off (Syfy) 9:00 PM ET
Hey looks, it's time for another cross-promotion within the NBC Universal family, this time we've got a challenge that takes inspiration from Grimm.

The New Normal (NBC) 9:30 PM ET
Things get into a realm where I don't really empathise as Bryan and David start thinking about who they will pick to be their child's godparents. At least there's an appearance by John Benjamin Hickey as the priest at Bryan's church

Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 (ABC) 9:30 PM ET
As funny as Krysten Ritter may be as ABC's funniest sociopath (taking the title from Portia de Rossi's Better Off Ted character) the second season premiere is about James and the possibility of a Dawson's Creek reunion (which brings cameos by Busy Philipps, Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Frankie Muniz).

Covert Affairs (USA) 10:00 PM ET
With Annie stuck in a Russian prison, Joan, Auggie and Arthur work from DC to get her freed. I'm still trying to figure out how such a plan could be helped by Auggie losing his shirt.

Chopped (Food Network) 10:00 MP ET
This week's theme is unusual cuts of meat — and to show that they mean it the mystery basket for the appetizer course includes a whole pig's head. I have the feeling this episode is not for the squeamish.

Flipping Out (Bravo) 10:00 PM ET
It's finally time for Jenni's wedding, I'm just hoping Jeff can get through the day without being awful.

Watch What Happens Live (Bravo) 11:00 PM ET
Following the big wedding, Andy's talking with Jenni Pulos and Zoila Chavez.

Chelsea Lately (E!) 11:00 PM ET
Chelsea's interview guest tonight is Zachary Quinto.

The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS) 11:35 PM ET
Dave's getting a visit from Rachel Maddow tonight. Two appearances by Maddow in one day? I guess that makes up for
