"I can see you're both just thrilled to be working with me!"
Old designers never die, they just ... come back to haunt our nightmares.
You know whenever the designers are whittled down to an even number that the odds of a "Team Challenge" are pretty good, and they certainly didn't wait on giving us the first Duos From Hell show.
The designers have to pair up to create a red carpet Emmy design for a past Project Runway designer, and my hopes were raised when they were brought to a car dealership to look at brand new Lexuses ... um... Lexi? My first thought was, "OMG, they have to design an Emmy dress using parts of a Lexus!," and I imagined Gretchen being forced to walk the runway wearing a seatbelt, an airbag, and a Lexus hood ornament on top of her head.
Unfortunately, the challenge is much more boring. The returning designers are Irina, Valerie, April, Mila, Laura, Anya, and ... Kenley. Let's take a look at some highlights.
Wonder Twit powers activate! Form of ... an overflowing cesspool ... Shape of ... a feral Sasquatch.
- Gunnar was teamed up with Kooan to design for Irina, but he was disappointed he didn't get to work with Kenley, with whom he felt he had a lot in common. Well, he's right about that. I fact, right now I'm pitching a series for them ... The Wonder Twits. C'mon, you know you'd watch.
- Gunnar says, "When it comes to fashion, I'm kind of a controlling bitch." Please. When it comes to moving air in and out of your lungs you're a controlling bitch.
- My Sweet Christopher and Andrea team up to create a design for Anya. It doesn't go as planned. Prepare for a lot of "throwing under the bus" accusations.
- The guest judge this week is Kristin Ritter from Don't Trust The B In Apartment 23, and she's excessively harsh towards Christopher, telling him it looks like a Halloween costume you can buy at a drugstore, but then when he starts breaking down, she tears up, so ... I'm willing to forgive her.
- The assessment of Chris and Andrea turns out to be one of the most cringe-inducing, "I can't even watch" moments I've seen on the show. Someone needs a hug!
- Thankfully, Both Andrea and Chris are spared, and it's Raul, who we really haven't gotten to know, who is sent home.
- I had a horrible knot in my stomach, expecting that the smug asshat Gunnar was going to win, but to my delight (well, relief), Ven again took the crown.
- The show ends on a cliffhanger, as it's revealed that Andrea ... is missing! The designers wake in the morning to discover that she's nowhere to be found. This can mean one of two things: Either she couldn't handle the stress and decided to flee the show ... or my theory ... Gunnar has begun his plan to secretly devour the competition. I'm pretty sure I saw him picking his teeth with a bone.
Frankly, I wasn't blown away by any of the designs, and the former designers did not look their best on the runway. April reminded me of Courtney Love during that brief moment when she thought she could do couture, Irina looked extremely ... startled, and Anya, I have to agree with Michael Kors, did look like a Hershey bar.
