Archer returns tonight and in my house
so does the question, "They've got cell phones and Soviets? What year is this?"

Vampire Diaries producer Julie Plectells EW that spin-off series The Originals has been discussed for about two years, which I guess explains why the Originals stuck around long past their expiration date. Plec also says that Daniel Gillies would always be welcome on the spin-off, but that's up to Gillies.

This is turning out to be a week of the axe falling on cable shows. Yesterday it was bad news for Drop Dead Diva now, Syfy has cancelled Alphas.

Taking a cue from The Killing, TNT has ordered a pilot from Steven Bochco that will follow a murder investigation over a season. This isn't the first time Bochco has tried to tell a season-long story, in 1995 critics tried to convince viewers to pick up Murder One, which followed a murder trial over the course of its first season. Murder One failed to draw an audience but with DVRs and streaming, there are fewer barriers

The faboo Katie Finneran has joined the cast of Michael J. Fox's upcoming comedy. The Wonderfalls alum will play Fox's unemployed, noacicstic sister.

You want to know one more seemingly-safe tag you should avoid on Tumblr? The Good Wife. I'm still scrubbing that image from my brain.

io9 reports that the Zombieland TV show seems to be going forward, as casting has begun on the series.

In sad news, iconic sitcom actor from the 70s and the 80s Conrad Bain (Diff'rent Strokes, Maude) died at the age of 89. Our thoughts go out with his surviving family. The news prompted Steve Kornacki to pay tribute to the sitcom dads he grew up watching on The Cycle yesterday:

Alec Baldwintold Rolling Stone that he almost left 30 Rock after the fifth season because he thought the show was in a creative decline at the time. So, this means Baldwin's going to be attacked for this like when Katherine Heigl said that the ghost sex storyline on Grey's Anatomy wasn't good enough to pursue an Emmy.

Ron Moore might be returning to Syfy. Deadline says that Syfy is getting ready to order 13 episodes of Moore's new thriller, Helix. The drama follows a team who heads to an Arctic research facility to investigate the spread of a disease there but ends up discovering something that could destroy the world.

USA might start competing in late night programming according to TV Guide. There's a unique concept to the show, however. It won't be patterned after the typical late night talk show but will follow the style of morning shows like Live! with Kelly and Michael. The show would even air at 12:01 AM so it can claim to be the first talk show of the morning.

It looks like "the realest, fakest reality show" may be a hit. The debut of BET's The Real Husbands of Hollywood drew 11 million viewers, beating some of its competition on the broadcast networks.

Anderson Live (syndicated) Check local listings
Tatyana Ali is Anderson's co-host today, just in time for her to boast about the ratings for Second Generation Wayans.

Last Resort (ABC) 8:00 PM ET
We're at the penultimate episode for the series as the coup moves forward giving Marcus hope that he might be able to surrender the Colorado. Oh, would a show this bleak dare to end on a happy note? I guess after the first season of American Horror Story ended with a warm Christmas episode, that's very possible.

30 Rock (NBC) 8:00 PM ET
Liz and Jack get a chance to unwindulax when they head to Florida to take care of Colleen's estate, leaving Tracy and Jenna in charge of TGS.

Haven (Syfy) 8:00 PM ET
Haven's third season finally gets to air its delayed finale tonight. Audrey faces whatever fate awaits her when she takes her decades-long hiatus from Haven. (I think she spends the time in an extended montage scene where she tries on different outfits and wigs for her next identity.)

The Vampire Diaries (CW) 8:00 PM ET
"Rebekah is back with a vengeance" says the episode description. If necessity is the mother of invention, I'm wondering how this season hasn't led to the invention of a DVR that can automatically skip over the scenes without Caroline, TylerBonnie or Jeremy. Oh and speaking of Jeremy, he tries to increase the intensity of his hunter training, so there should be something that's nice to watch, at least.

Parks & Recreation (NBC) 8:30 PM ET
As the big wedding day nears, Ann and Chris take on the duty of planning the bachelor and bachelorette parties. If there were ever a hope of TV airing a scene where a stripper starts out wearing his best bureaucrat costume, it would be Leslie Knope's bachelorette party. All the Right Moves dancer Kyle Robinson plays the male stripper! We'll have an interview with him later today.

Project Runway All Stars (Lifetime) 9:00 PM ET
It's time for the second All Star season to crown its winner. At this point, who needs the "Sorry for Nina's taste having another moment of inexplicable absence" prize most.

Anger Management (FX) 9:00 PM ET
Are FX viewers ready for two years of Charlie Sheen? Uhboy.

The Office (NBC) 9:00 PM ET
As The Office starts to go through the list of workplace storylines it hasn't tackled yet, the team gets a new espresso machine, prompting everyone to make a little too much use of the branch's new toy.

Archer (FX) 10:00 PM ET
The most twisted and anachronistic spy parody kicks off a new season with Sterling suffering from amnesia. Isn't that how last season started? Except this time, apparently the cure is a weekend at the spa. That means its time for some uncomfortably hot cartoon nudity.

Kathy (Bravo) 10:00 PM ET
I've been trying to figure out who will be Kathy's guest tonight. I'm not sure if Kristin Chenoweth will be on tonight's show, or if I just hallucinated it while under the influence of wishful thinking. But rapper TI is definitely on the list.

Suits (USA) 10:00 PM ET
After a bloody battle for control of the firm, Mike and Harvey had to accept a tough decision, giving Louis power in exchange for his vote. Now that they've survived that battle they have to deal with the monster they created. You know what couldn't hurt? More simmering chemistry between Harvey and Mike. Along with more of Patrick J. Adams cute blinking.

King of the Nerds (TBS) 10:00 PM ET
Since The Big Bang Theory is such a big hit for TBS, it's hoping viewers will stick around for a nerd-themed reality competition. Now, is this the kind of competition that defines nerdy as Star Wars trivia, or as the ability to get jokes about SQL injections.

Totally Biased with W Kamau bell (FX) 11:00 PM ET
FX's sharp entry into late night talk returns tonight. My only complaint is that the show's still only a half-hour long, which means ridiculously short interviews.

Watch What Happens Live (Bravo) 11:00 PM ET
Oh my! (Couldn't resist.) George Takei is joining Andy tonight.

Newsreaders (Adult Swim) Midnight ET
Adult Swim steps into the fake news genre with help from the team behind Childrens Hospital.
