Last night's Girls amounted to an informal competition among the show's main characters that I like to call "Who can be the most insufferable and immature?"
Marnie showed up at Hannah's dinner party despite knowing that Charlie and his headband-obsessed girlfriend would be there; Jessa ruined her own marriage for the hell of it; Hannah touted her own grownup skills by attempting to make and serve a self-congratulatory feast; Shoshanna yelled at Ray for spending too much time with her. But perhaps worst of all, Elijah (Andrew Rannells) exited the show in a huff, fighting with his ex-girlfriend, now-ex-roommate Hannah about coughing up rent money. Sad, sad day.
Yet magically, the self-absorbed gay character managed to leave the series with his single most entertaining moment yet. His last word on Girls, you ask? "Buttplug."
It went down like this: Elijah started arguing with Hannah about how much money he owed her for their failed cohabitation, citing that in college he paid for most of her burritos, which included extras like pecans. Hannah (rightfully) claimed that boyfriends are supposed to pay for things like a girlfriend's burritos, and Elijah countered pitifully by noting that he also paid for their buttplug.
The rest looked like this, with Elijah storming off the series after repeating that glorious word.
Is there a finer way to leave a series? I personally believe this is the L.A. Law elevator exit of our time.
